Description

A trilobite genus with a conical glabella, where S1 may be transglabellar, and a facial line may be present on the anterior areas of the fixigenae. It is found in the Lower Cambrian (upper Canglangpuan to Longwangmiaoan) of China, Korea, Pakistan, the Himalayan region, Iran, Spain, southern Siberia, and Antarctica, as well as in the Middle Cambrian (Ordian) of Australia. The subgenus R. (Redlichia) is characterized by the presence of facial and rostral sutures, a fused hypostome to the rostral plate, a shorter rostral plate than the anterior border of the cranidium, a long and tapering forward glabella, shallow glabellar and occipital furrows, a long eye lobe almost reaching the axial furrow in adults, a wide librigena, and a posterolateral limb repeating the structure of the posterior half of the thoracic pleurae, sometimes with advanced intergenal spines. Some species have a short occipital spine, and the hypostome may have 2 pairs of lateral spines. The thorax gradually decreases in width posteriorly, with pleurae having spines advanced on anterior and falcate on posterior segments. The pygidium has 3 segments and is dimorphic, with one morph having narrow, depressed flanks and an arched posterior margin, and the other having a continuous doublure and a more or less rounded posterior margin.
